No demand for Pinoy nurses in UK – POEA

uk nursesThe Philippine Overseas Employment Administration(POEA) issued a press release saying that the United Kingdom is not actively hiring Filipino nurses as it warned jobseekers to be wary of supposed vacancies advertised through social media channels.

Administrator Hans Leo J. Cacdac said he received information from the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) in London that there is no active hiring of nurses in UK at present though there were a few NHS Trusts and care homes that were able to hire nurses and senior carers these past months.

Cacdac said that currently, there is not much demand for Filipino nurses from employers in the United Kingdom. “Except for a few, old job orders in our accreditation database, the POEA has not received nor approved fresh JOs for nurses from UK employers”, Cacdac said.

Labor Attache Joan Lourdes Lavilla also alerted the POEA about a facebook account named Drake Personnel Philippines which is used to recruit Filipino nurses and other medical professionals. Cacdac said Drake Personnel Philippines has no valid license from the POEA and is not allowed to recruit or deploy Filipino workers overseas.

Cacdac said that to avoid being duped by illegal recruiters, Filipino applicants desiring to work in the United Kingdom may visit http://ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/visas-immigration/working/ for useful information about working in the UK and how to get visas for various work categories.

To check whether a UK employer is allowed to sponsor migrant workers, applicants may browse http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/sitecontent/documents/employersandsp
